Rule 2 - Scoring
Rule 2 - Scoring
An XP attempt is done from the 3-yard line (unless modified by penalty).
Offensive team can choose to go from the Left or Right Hash or from the Center.
A run or backward pass is worth 1-point.
A forward pass (flag or tackle) or kick (in tackle) is worth 2-points.
A forward pass is a ball thrown from behind the LOS in a froward direction, towards the opponent's goal (even if caught behind the LOS).
Flag only has INTERCEPTIONS.
If during regulation play or XP attempt a defender intercepts a pass, they may return it.
As long as the ball does not touch the ground, it is considered an interception.
Example Interceptions:
A QB throws the ball and a defender grabs it out of the air.
A QB pitches the ball and a defender grabs it out of the air.
A QB attempts to hand off a ball and gives it to a defender accidently.
Tackle has INTERCEPTIONS, FUMBLES and BLOCKED KICKS.
If during regulation play or XP attempt a defender recovers a turnover, they may return it.
Any turnover during an XP attempt returned for a score, is worth the value of the attempt.
The team scoring the safety will receive 2 points and possession of the ball.
A safety kick for tackle is from the 35-yard line for 7u, and the 25-yard line for the 9u, 11u and 13u.
In flag, the team scoring the safety will take possession of the ball at their own 20-yard line.
In tackle, an onside kick cannot be attempted on a safety kick.
In the Game Center a forfeit will only be recorded if the game had not started.
This benefits the winning team in the algorithm.
If the game had not started or there was no score, the offended team will be awarded a 1-point victory.
If the game was tied, the offended team will be awarded 1-point to break the tie.
If the offended team was losing, they will be awarded a 1-point victory.
If the offended team was winning, the score will stand was is.
When a team has a 30+ point margin, regardless of what point in the game it is, the Mercy Rule is invoked. The Mercy Rule is a "running clock."
Once the Mercy Rule is invoked it cannot be turned off unless the losing team decreases the point margin to 14 or less by the end of the 3rd quarter. Once it has been turned off, it cannot be invoked again.
It a team reaches 50+ points WHILE THE MERCY RULE IS IN EFFECT (NOT 50-point margin), the game is over REGARDLESS OF when in the game it is.
It is possible to reach a 30-point margin and hit 50 points at the same time.
If in the Referee's opinion the ball carrier had obviously broken loose and had an apparent score (TD/XP), regardless of where on the field, if the opponent had not performed an illegal action to prevent the score:
A TD or XP will be awarded to the offended team.
If during the play, the ball carrier also commits a penalty, the penalties offset, and the down in replayed. No score is awarded.
If the defender commits any of these infractions, "Last Man" could be called.
Dives for the ball carrier's flags
Pushes/Pulls the ball carrier either down or out of bounds
Strips Ball
Holds the ball carrier
Tackles the ball carrier (referees opinion player did not accidently pull ball carrier down while pulling flags)
If the ball carrier commits any of these infractions, it would off set any Defender infractions and "Last Man" cannot be called:
Stiff Arms
Guards their flag
Charges into defender
Jumps or Spins
This is an egregious act:
If a person comes off the sideline, out of the stands onto the field, and intentionally impedes the ball carrier, they will be ejected and their team will be penalized an Unsportsmanlike Conduct (15).
If a 5u/7u coach who is on the field intentionally impedes the ball carrier, they will be ejected and their team will be penalized an Unsportsmanlike Conduct (15).
If in the Referee's opinion "Last Man" would apply, they will invoke the "Last Man" rule instead of the penalty.
